PRP and Exosomes for Hair Restoration

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Our blood consists of a liquid component known as plasma and 3 types of cells: red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), and platelets. Platelets play an important role in forming blood clots. They also consist of special proteins known as growth factors which help with our body’s healing process.

Platelet-rich plasma or PRP is a high concentration of platelets and plasma. PRP contains 5 to 10 times the concentration of growth factors found in normal blood and therefore has greater healing properties.

Hair Loss

Hair loss from the scalp can range from mild thinning of the hair to total baldness. It can result from hormonal changes, stress, certain hair treatments, an underlying health condition, certain medications or a hereditary factor. Hair loss is more common in men, although anyone can experience it. Most often, people experience a gradual loss that begins from the forehead or patchy bald spots anywhere in the scalp.

PRP and Exosomes for Hair Restoration

Exosomes is a regenerative product rich in proteins made from lab derived mesenchymal cells from umbilical cord blood. It activates stem cells in the scalp for hair growth. Stem cells are specialized cells in your body that can multiply and differentiate into specific cell types. The PRP growth factors stimulate the activated stem cells and promote hair follicles to grow new hair.

Indications

PRP and Exosomes restoration is indicated for:

  • Hereditary hair loss in men or women
  • Decreased hair growth of eyebrows
  • Bald spots
  • Thinning of hair
  • Receding hairline

Procedure

The procedure may be performed under local anesthesia of the scalp. Exosomes is usually available as a powder. The mixture of PRP and Exosomes is injected into the skin of the scalp near the hair roots. Hair growth typically occurs in 4-6 months and thickens over 12-15 months, and the results can last for years.

Complications

Complications are rare but may include pain, redness, and bleeding at the injection site.

Advantages

The advantages of PRP and Exosomes therapy for hair loss include:

  • Minimal complications
  • Cost-effective
  • No need for an incision as compared to hair transplantation
  • Better results

Contraindications

PRP and Exosomes therapy may not be recommended if you have a low platelet count or blood clotting disorder, or if the underlying cause of your hair loss is related to medication or stress.
